Conference/Simultaneous Interpreting

Conference interpreters or simultaneous interpreters are the form of interpreters that we all know from TV. While someone answers a question in a foreign language, we hear the interpretation in our own ntive tongue.

Another typical application of simultaneous interpreting is events where speeches are given or Q&As are held where either the panel or the questioners are multi-lingual.

Simultaneous interpreting generally requires equipment. Either an interpreting booth or a set of receivers and a transmitter. WoordenWechsel has a set of 20 receivers.

Consecutive Interpreting

Consecutive means one after the other and is therefore the opposite of simultaneous interpreting. The interpreter listens attentively to the speaker and takes notes. Then he or she repeats what has been said in the other language.

Shorter appointments are a typical application for consecutive interpreting, the additional time the interpretor needs may not be as delaying or there may not be a budget for technical equipment. Many interviews for print media are interpreted consecutively.

Because consecutive interpreting only requires pen, paper and a brain, trainee interpreters are assessed on the basis of their consecutive interpreting skills and receive their diplomas based on those consecutive interpretation assessments.

Translations

The difference between interpreting and translating is the medium. An interpreter translates the spoken word, a translator focuses on writings. Where an interpreter has little time to find the translation of a word, a translator may think a little longer to write down the perfect translation.

If you are looking for the translation of documents you are also welcome to contact me. I have not yet been sworn in and am therefore not allowed to translate notarial deeds.
